warm woolen mittens
As I take joy in watching the 2010 Winter Olympics, these Vancouver red mittens worn by Canadians are splendid. When hands are waved by spectators, the maple leaves seem to be waving as well.

Charlotte Gray
Charlotte Gray joins the French Resistance during WWII in opposition of the Nazi occupation. This is a wonderful story, set in France and who doesn't love the work of Cate Blanchett. Fabulous fields of lavender and bucolic French backdrops make this a winner.

2010 Winter Olympics, Vancouver
PhotoCredits: Ralph Lauren
This evening, the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics will air on NBC at 9:00 (EST). I believe coverage will begin at 7:30 when the Olympic partakers will be introduced and their stories be told, no doubt.
Once again and through 2012, Ralph Lauren has created the clothing for Team USA. Inspiration for this year's design was the outfits worn by the participants of the 1932 Lake Placid Olympics.
The enormous polo ponies plopped on the torsos are not my favorite, but the collection is a smart and appealing expression of red, white and blue.

Who wears these shoes?
During the winter months, I simply leave a selection of shoes on the library floor. When leaving the house, I choose which to slip on.
Clock-wise beginning with the boot:
Bandolino boots
Cole Haan black loafers (so very comfortable)
Cordovan Bass Weejuns, tasselled
Talbot's croc loafers, tasselled

...out in the country
Yesterday, I got out for awhile to head to the grocery before the big storm. It was packed with people buying up milk, bread, fruit, etc. Prior to that, I took a journey out in the country to Lucketts , my source for tres reasonably-priced goodies. I found this small, cream-colored urn made by Lenox for $15. Upon first glance, I immediately thought of Eddie Ross. I could very much see this in situ among one of his lovely tablescapes. Not sure what to put in it now, just yet. Come next Christmas, I plan to put 3-4 paperwhite bulbs inside and watch them bloom.
