The Tower, the Zoo and the Tortoise

A whimsical and light tale set in contemporary London, The Tower, the Zoo and the Tortoise  presents Balthazar Jones, a Beefeater who collects rain samples and is charged with creating a menagerie (animals gifted to the Queen) at the Tower of London similar to that which existed over 600 years ago.  His wife, Hebe is hard at work at the Lost Property office for the Underground attempting to relocate owners of many peculiarities which have been left behind. The story is a charming yet wacky account of their relationship while living in the Tower with many historical references and British utterances. Who knew a rutabaga was known as a swede in the UK, at least, or a zorilla was a skunk-like animal??

Worth a read, for sure!
